The rapper starred in the original show from 1990-1996.
Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment is creating a Fresh
Prince of Bel-Air remake, according to TVLine.
The rapper-actor will serve as executive producer for the
television series based on the original sitcom in which he starred from
1990-1996.
The reboot will be set in modern times. It is not decided
yet if the show will be a continuation of the Banks' family story from the
original show or a new storyline.
The pitch is being finalized and will be shopped around to
networks within the coming weeks.
Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, is also named as a
producer for the show, as are her brother Caleeb Pinkett and James Lassiter.
The latter worked with the actor on I Am Legend, The Pursuit of Happyness and
Hancock.
Smith is also partnering with Jay Z to make a miniseries
documenting the life of Emmett Till, a Black teenage boy who was murdered in
1955 for reportedly whistling at a White woman.
